Queers: Americas New Nigger

Of course Viacom isn't the only media giant in America. AOL Time Warner owns CNN, HBO, TBS Superstation, TNT, the Cartoon Network, the WB and New Line Cinema. The Walt Disney Company owns ABC, ESPN (80%), The History Channel (Hearst and GE), E! Entertainment (with Comcast and Liberty Media), Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, Caravan Pictures, and Miramax Films (http://www.cjr.org/owners/).

These corporations haven't been quite as visible in proliferating the messages I am discussing, but they have all done their part. In addition to the case of Jesse Dirkhising, all of these media outlets have followed the same basic pattern. The major news channels advance their message by picking and choosing which stories they cover, and the way they cover them. The stories that are covered in the news are what the rest of the media talks about. The only difference is that it is considered art when movies and television approach the issues that arise from news stories. Because it is art, the creators are free to put whatever spin they wish on the issue. This is fine, but when all of the major media outlets put basically the same spin on issues, the masses are never given an alternative viewpoint.

Consider the recent stories about child molestation and the Catholic Church. Whenever the news media covers a story about a Priest molesting a child the focus is always on the fact that the perpetrator is a Priest. Yet while fostering the idea that pedophiles often become Priests, the media never mentioned the fact that these pedophiles are also homosexuals. I am not saying that these Priests become child molesters because they are homosexuals; I simply do not believe that is true. The media, however, has made it seem as though these Priests have become child molesters because of the Catholic Church.
