Queers: Americas New Nigger

The popular theory emerged that celibacy drives Priests to molest children. The Catholic Church has thus been painted as some sort of evil empire that creates and then hides pedophiles. 60 minutes II aired a segment titled "The Church on Trial", and Time Magazine printed a cover story titled "Catholicism in Crisis". No major news outlet ever published any story titled "Homosexuals in the Church".

Meanwhile civil rights groups have continually pressured the Boy Scouts of America to allow gay men to be scout leaders. While the media made it such a scary thought to leave your children in the care of a Catholic Priest, no one seemed to have any problem sending a group of young boys on a camping trip alone with a gay scout leader. Homosexual pedophiles who become Priests is a story about the corruption of the church, and the Boy Scouts of America trying to remain true to their beliefs by excluding homosexuals is a story of prejudice and oppression.

Now I'm not trying to say that homosexuals shouldn't be allowed near children for fear that they will molest them, or that every story about a homosexual committing a crime should be front page news. Nor am I saying that the actions of child molesting Priests and the subsequent cover up by high-ranking church officials were not deplorable. What I am saying is that the media tends to put a slant on news stories so that a homosexual is never portrayed in a negative light.

I contend that the reason they do this is to circulate the idea of homosexuals as an oppressed class. They do this to recreate the drama of the 60's civil rights battles. The policy of segregation was blatantly racist, thereby giving ethical preeminence to those who would fight against it, especially the oppressed blacks themselves. This all made for great "good vs. evil" news stories to entertain the masses. Now to continue that drama, the media has given that same ethical preeminence to homosexuals by portraying them as an oppressed class. The only difference is that the degree and nature of discrimination faced by homosexuals today is nothing like that faced by black America in the 50's and 60's.
