An Economical Approach
to Crime and Punishment

The nature of criminals being often rebellious, it would not be unlikely that one or more might refuse to engage in combat. I have taken this into account however, and decided that those reluctant to fight can still make a contribution to society. Medical science would benefit greatly if those in the field were able to once again perform vivisection, and other life threatening experiments upon live subjects. Therefore I would graciously offer a choice between combat and medical experiment. While this may yield no monetary gain, it would certainly benefit mankind.

Certainly I can imagine that some people will be initially opposed to the scheme I have outlined here, however any objections would clearly be based on emotion, although most likely hidden under some clever rationalization, and therefore flawed.

Terry Rose - Weekend Warrior
It is obvious that we cannot simply put violent criminals to death in quiet seclusion. Not only would hiding an execution from public view render no profit, it would deny our natural lust for blood, which would then surface elsewhere, like Monday night football, or Wrestlemania.
